We had the hardest time finding Mt. Carmel. This is where Elijah challenged the priests of Baal and called down fire on his sacrifice. This is one of my dad's favorite scripture stories. Besides Elijah mocking the priest and saying maybe their god couldn't hear them and they needed to yell louder. Elijah drenches his altar in water and still God sends down fire and immediately lights his alter. Well, there is a Mt. Carmel National Park near Haifa that we drove all over but it's not where Elijah's Mt. Carmel is. It is, ironically, were the Carmel Fire Victim's monument is. A couple days later we found Elijah's Mt. Carmel, but just a bit after closing. We could still hike around and see Elijah's statue and the famous valley below.
